The Donation/Seed funding system

Readers that want to support their favourite channels may be reluctant to commit to multiple fixed monthly payments.

With the Kuloo donation system, a single monthly contribution can be set that will automatically be allocated to the user's subscribed channels based on their actual views for the month.

If they are not reading a particular author or if they subscribe to a new one, there is no need to delete or update payment information anywhere. It is all taken care of.

• It is voluntary.
• Users set their own rate.
• Their contribution is split between their subscribed channels either evenly or based on the number of articles read.
• At any time, the channel owners can withdraw their earnings via PayPal, Stripe Connect or other agreed methods.

It is like Spotify for content but with the rate set by the user. A single fixed rate is divided up between the content providers that the user views.

Setting up a donation

There are two ways to get to the Donations form:

• The "Donations" button on the profile form.
• The "Donations" option on the left side of the "Accounts" page.

Once you have the "Donations" form open, enter an amount and select the renewal and allocation options. Your donation is automatically allocated on a daily basis in one of two methods that you can choose.

Split method 1: Evenly between all channels

At the end of each day the per diem amount of your monthly donation is evenly allocated between the channels that you are subscribed to as of that date.

If you don't read anything from a particular channel it will still get a portion of your donation. This method might be good if you have some low volume channels that you want to make sure are supported.

Split method 2: By number of item views

At the end of each day the per diem amount of your monthly donation is allocated between the channels that you are subscribed to based on the number of views you have made in each channel for that day. If you don't view anything from a particular channel then no part of your donation will be sent to it.

This is a set and forget allocation method. You can be sure you are supporting the content providers you read without have to manage your subscriptions.

Changing your donation

You can modify your donation at any time using the Donations form. When you increase the amount you will get a pro-rated credit for the month to date and your new renewal cycle will start at the current date.

Donation decreases will not take effect until your next renewal date.

Cancelling donations

To cancel your donation altogether just turn off the auto-renew switch on the Donations form.

Note: A portion of the proceeds (about 30%) go to supporting the Kuloo system for infrastructure costs and software development.

Kuloo Seed Funding

To encourage and support the creation of new channels, Kuloo is contributing $500 per month to the donation system. This contribution will be phased in based on the total number of daily users until it is fully disbursed at 1000 users.
